Boulevard of broken dreams

The man, machine and a boulevard which is history...
VTPhoto: Nishant Ratnakar

Surprised that we just walk on.
May be helpless, but we just walk on.
We walk on the disappearing boulevard,
As the city, they say has to move forward

I couldn't have imagined growing up anywhere else than in Bangalore. The city which truly instils pride when you say you were born there, still evokes the same feelings 32 years on.Transition has come quickly to this city and it is inevitable...BUT...it is also sad to see places like the "Boulevard" go. As a "pub-hopping" teen the Boulevard was the perfect place to sober up before hitting base. After scoring a "few" drinks at Pecos,a small walk to the boulevard with friends was a certain essential. It gave us a place to sit and feverishly discuss and mostly argue philosophically, about trivial issues.Though my friends and Pecos are still the same today...sadly the boulevard won't be.
Every Bangalorean will miss this landmark which has a place in everyones memory, whether we have used it as a place to sit and contemplate or used it to have a quiet time with your "babe" or simply used it as a toilet!!...
An auto-driver simply put it across very straight faced-"Yella yeguttoithu saar"...when we passed this half-eaten boulevard, with the JCB's still devouring away what remained of it.
Will simply miss it!!!!
